When your partner says they need somewhere to spend their time sipping tea, jotting in her journal and bossing her inbox, you make them a bespoke hardwood dressing table. At least that’s what I did.
Amidst the chaos that was 2020, my partner and I moved in together. With twice the amount of belongings now in the apartment and seemingly half the space, a place to relax seemed hard to come by.
How many times have you gone to move that bookcase you bought from the Swedish flat-pack giant only to find the cheap chipboard crumble and creak at the slightest touch? When a wobbly wardrobe nearly collapsed on us in our rental flat I realised that cheap, fast-furniture should be a thing of the past.
That’s why when my partner started searching for a dressing table for our home, she was disappointed that the majority on offer were either made from MDF, or chipboard and had barely enough elbow room for one.
Inspired by classical furniture I captured tradition in the curvy aesthetics while ensuring more practicalities than most. Crafted wholly of solid hardwood by hand, the dresser boasts a deep table-top, and will easily host you for tea and toast at sunrise, and while you clear your in-tray working from home.
Spotted in the background of zoom calls, her friends, colleagues and family were all asking for links of where they could buy the dresser. Until now her response has always been ‘well, you can’t because there is only one in the world!’. We soon realised we weren’t the only ones searching for their dream dresser. For us, Fettle marks the end of the fast-fashion fad and the beginning of beautiful, bespoke designer furniture made from responsibly sourced hardwoods throughout that will last a generation, not just a tenancy.
Now, after clocking up many hours of tea sipping, journal jotting and eyelash curling behind her bespoke dressing table I asked her for her honest review of the piece to help you to choose the perfect dressing table from our collection to complement your daily routine:
Our origin story
“What does your dream dressing table look like?”
“What does your dream dressing table look like?” - my partner asked a month before my birthday in 2020. “It doesn’t exist yet” I replied. We had moved in together two months prior and so I was expecting furniture/home bits for my birthday. One of the things I had long been searching for the perfect dressing table.
I wanted something traditional but also with modern practicality. I wanted it to be of good quality, solid hardwood, sustainable and versatile. Like many others, I had started working from home for the majority of the time and given we didn’t have a separate study I wanted my dressing table to be more than just a place where I get ready. It needed to be the perfect haven where I could do my self-care routine, journal, get ready and work comfortably at.
We sat down and I described the perfect versatile table which he then sketched out and from there began his labour of love. A beautiful bespoke dressing table can completely change your daily life. It will simplify your routine, giving you more time, mental space and energy for more fulfilling aspects of your life. It’s like an extension of your personality, something you want to talk about and cherish for decades to come.

Why your order takes 6-8 weeks:
Wood is a natural material and each length needs to be hand-picked, acclimatised to it's environment and carefully crafted to get the very best product. That's why we make everything to order.
When you order from FETTLE we will reach out to discuss your order, this will help us select the right materials for your piece. We'll hand pick the timber ourselves from our saw mill partners and acclimatise them back at base for a couple of weeks, this makes sure the materials are as stable as possible before we start your build.
We mill all of our materials to size ourselves, making sure to select the best grain patterns for beauty and structural integrity. Only then do we start the process of honing your chosen material into your dream dresser, stool or nightstand.
Every component is hand crafted, sanded and finished during the assembly process, allowing us to ensure the highest control over quality.
We believe communication is key to a successful business, that's why you'll receive regular updates on your build to let you know when you can expect delivery.
